Happy Chickens=healthy eggs
Posted in news & information on Apr 27th, 2007
Here is a nice visual example of the difference between eggs from healthy, free-range chickens who eat a varied diet of greens and protein-rich insects and those trucked to the grocery store from factory farms.
On the left is a Touch the Earth Farm hard-boiled egg with a rich, golden yolk loaded with omega-3s, vitamin E, and beta-carotene. On the right is a confinement-raised hard-boiled egg yolk that literally pales in comparison, colored only by the grain that comprises the hens’ entire diet. When chickens spend their days foraging in pastures, not only are their lives happier, but their eggs are much healthier as according to several ongoing studies.
Below is a chart detailing study results conducted by Mother Earth News on the health benefits of free-range eggs. Other studies, like those reported at EatWild.com, have found higher levels of folic acid in free-range eggs as well increased B12. One more reason to eat eggs from happy chickens!
