“Imperial Star” artichoke
Posted in featured selections on Jan 22nd, 2007

“Imperial Star” is the only plant protected seed (meaning I can’t save and sell the seed) that I’ve purchased; it is non-gmo, but it is a PVP seed.
The advantage of this particular variety is that it’s the only artichoke bred to produce in a single season, maturing in only 95 days and producing artichokes the first season from seed. Overwintering artichokes can be difficult in the mid-atlantic region, as they are perennial only to zone 7.
“Imperial Star” produces 6-8 buds per plant that mature to 3′- 4′ in diameter and promises to be an excellent addition to our 2007 line up.
